The film was not screened in Bengaluru or Mumbai, both of which are major revenue centers for Malayalam films. Nonetheless, Truth Global Films’ release of the Mammootty starrer garnered considerable attention in the Middle East.

In terms of opening day profits, the film is still the second highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year, trailing only Mammootty’s Bhishma Parv. After the Kerala government allowed 100% theater occupancy, both the films were released in theatres.

The story of CBI 5 revolves around a series of murders known as the Basket Killings, which lead the agency to investigate. It proves to be a difficult matter to solve even for the best investigator.
